Integrated Pest ManagementMPs' Backing for Lindane Ban - BY JOHN INGHAM, ENVIRONMENT EDITOR
THE Express campaign to ban the pesticide lindane in Britain is set to win parliamentary support.
An Early Day Motion was tabled yesterday, giving MPs the chance to back calls for ministers to outlaw the chemical. It was tabled by Liberal Democrat Norman Baker after The Express revealed how lindane was banned in many developing countries but not in Britain.
Last year ministers outlawed the pesticide's use in seed treatments amid fears that the health of agricultural workers might be at risk. But its use is still allowed in agriculture and for a variety of domestic products, including pest killers.
"Lindane is classified by the World Health Organisation as a possible human carcinogen," said Mr Baker. "The Government must apply the precautionary principle instead of giving the benefit of the doubt to chemical manufacturers."Lindane is currently banned in 14 countries.

Well Lyndon, don't you think it is a little odd that "regulatory" people in the United States still continue to tell people to soak their heads and bodies with this terrible carcinogen? This toxin no longer works to "control" resistant pest populations, but, obviously it still can create profits for the POISON "industry"; is this why it is still "registered" in California? When will you ever consider the precautionary princple rather than giving the benefit of the doubt to the POISON "industry"?
Respectfully, Stephen L. Tvedten.
