The Challenge of MCS Validation

I just published this article I have been working on to the site/url above. I have been frustrated for a long time by the continuous devastation of lives from chemical injury. I am troubled by the calls or emails I get from people with MCS who are homeless or sleeping in their cars. I am troubled by the calls or emails I get from those who have been chemically injured at work and have had their claims denied and have lost their jobs. I am troubled about hearing or reading about other men, women and children injured by toxic chemicals.

I have known for a long time that VALIDATION (universal recognition of the relationship to low level toxic exposure and chemical injury symptoms) was the key to resolving this horrendous injustice. Yes, in the past 50 years since MCS was first recognized we have made some strides; but, the numbers of individuals who are now becoming ill from chemical exposure are epidemic.

It is time that we collectively and persistently demand research to understand and remediate the condition. I have never had any doubt that the search for knowledge and understanding will set us free.

The article I wrote is aimed at the MCS community. I hope we can focus our limited energy upon doing something that will return great benefits for all of us. I know in my state, Washington, Donalee Kessler advocated for and got research money to investigate MCS. My feeling is that if our country can spend a hundred million on high tech bombs and destructive devices, we sure as hell can find out ways to understand what is happening with people with chemical sensitivity.

When I first became disabled from my teaching job, I made a commitment to myself to do something, anything, whatever I could to prevent this from happening to others. This is my attempt at trying to get us to focus upon where we will most effectively use our limited energy and resources.

I give anyone who so chooses to copy, forward, link or use the article I wrote. My only purpose is to provoke thought and action that will be beneficial to us all.

I want to thank my friends Irene Wilkenfeld, Bonnye Matthews, and Betty Bridges for their assistance and suggestions.

Keep the faith,
