A Mother takes on the System to Save her Child from Pesticides.

The California story is a great one for publication. I hope that Linda or someone will distribute this story not only through your webpage but through other groups such as the Maryland Pesticide Network, NCAMP, etc. Action can take place to make IPM available nationally to prevent exposure to children and adults. It is interesting that the PCO in this story wore protective clothing (respirator was not mentioned?). PCOs are getting the message. Now we need to make sure that purchasing agents get the message.

Response from Steve:

Dear Bob, Thanks for your comments - we send these e-mails to a very large group - many of whom also send out my "comments". Linda generally also posts your and other comments to our sites. There are many search engines that direct people to our sites. Yes, I agree the message is finally getting out. Several PCO's have written that they are on "my" side. The "regulators and Republicans and POISON producers are going to have a very hard time getting people to stop seeing "the little man behind the curtain". Have a great week! Steve

Thank you very much for posting the story and circumstances that led to Los Angeles Unified School District adopting the strictest pesticide policy in the nation. Hopefully, our ability to change our system will spread nationwide. Thank you very much for contacting others who can change their current policies in their areas. All the best.

Dear Steve,

Enjoy reading your Web site. Thank you so very much for taking the time to post, and for your tireless eforts to prevent others from being poisoned. If we were able to alter policy here at Los Angeles Unified School Districts, hopefully others will be able to do so as well. I thank you so very much for getting the word out. All my best to you.

Warmest Regards,

Robina Suwol

Hi! I am the Chair of the Albany Coalition for Environmental Health. We had the same experience as Linda: man in moon suit spraying Round Up on the 15 acre agricultural tract owned by UC Berkeley as our children walked to our K-5 school, Ocean View. We have been working for over a year to get them to use alternative methods and are now making some progress: they agreed to use fatty acid weed control on the perimeters of the field. We are pushing for the entire field to be pesticide free adn are working with our district to get them to adopt an IPM policy. We held a demonstration last Saturday and got some media attention for our cause. WE are hearted to learn of Boxer and Lieberman's latest bill in the Senate. It is very encouraging and we sent information about this bill that safe2 use sent us, to convince them that legislative trends are against their continued use of Round Up. Thanks for your good work! Keep it up! Dorothea Dorenz
