Steve .. Have I told you about the MDA upgrade on rule 646 (pesticide control) at the state level? I've been attending a lot of the workgroup meetings, representing LWV-Michigan. They are finalizing their great work (!) now. I'm actually late getting back my final remarks to them. They'll meet again March 31 .. Tomorrow. I won't be going. If you think you need to know what's up, contact: Brian Rowe, MDA 517-335-4540 or Gina Davis. They've got provisions, which I am not supporting, that require the use of only registered materials for "insect control" ... which gets at what you are complaining to California's LH about. YOU NEED TO DO THE SAME THING HERE IN MICHIGAN. SO WE CAN GET IT ALL OUT IN THE OPEN. Sorry for the caps, but we need a pesticide policy focus in this state...I was included on the committee, only after a WMEAC gal suggested by name, however. They were polite, but not terribly attentive.... it's a law governing registration of pesticides. /labeling/ certification of applicators, etc.nothing more, of course. But letting the "director" determine when a pest is a pest, and suggesting that "direct supervision" of private AG applicator means direct supervision on job one, but not anything later on... their IPM is faulty. . Wrong definition, etc. We need more heavy hitters on this one, and who better than you?? Call them today ... have them priority mail, e-mail you the FULL proposed amendments of 646, not the checklist version they sent out to the committee. Call or write, if you need more. Otherwise, see you in New York?? Merrill
