No Malathion - Health Chief: City Not Spraying Until EPA Gives Okay
[ Back to Article ]
Dear Steve,
Here in Maryland, the Dept. of Agriculture has proposed to spray Naled, an organophosphate
insecticide as toxic as Malathion, if mosquitos are found to carry West Nile virus. If one
dreadful poison is just substituted for another in the same class, we have to ask whether the
one-pesticide-at-a-time regulatory approach isn't just a way of fooling the public into
thinking that the present pesticide regulatory system is protecting public health.
Larry
Lawrence A. Plumlee, M.D.
Dear Larry, we need to use safe and effective alternatives - not substitute poisons, Steve
Trust in NYCDOH should be minimal. If EPA does not declare M a carcinogen they will use it again. Now we need to emphasize that resmethrin has been found in office and homes 6 months after use and contains 54% Piperonyl butoxide, a suspect human carcinogen. The only pesticide on the list that has minimal tox is sumethrin, but this also has 10% PCO. We should emphasize use of mosquito magnet, BT in localized areas, larvacides, removing stagnant water. Steve, what do you recommend on the alternative side for large areas like NYC? Bob Simon
Dear Bob,
Putting Kleen Away Enzyme
Cleaners in any water source at a rate of 1 to 50,000 will safely and very
effectively control mosquitoes for an extremely long time.
The enzymes will also help the sewage system and are not harmful to
beneficials at that rate. We have
been verbally given two cities in Africa to control malaria.
I basically will be using these same preformed enzymes to safely and
effectively do the necessary pest control work.
Have you read my latest chapter on Mosquitoes?
I was told by several reporters and Bryna that my press release was the
deciding factor in the City's decision not to start bombing the populace with
malathion again.
But, if the environmental community does not back me up,
they will see the POISONING quickly resume.
As we discussed in New York "they" must learn to be for safe
and effective alternatives - more than they are against POISONS, or we will be
back to where Rachel Carson started again!
G-d Bless! Steve
That's why I was physically and with excessive force removed from the hearing room. I shouted "what? Is he announcing that he will use more poison in a different name?" They told me to be quiet and I said, "be quiet?" How can I be quiet when someone tells me they are going to poison me? That was it! They lifted me out of my chair and dragged me out. The NYACLU is handling it. I have a violation of my Civil Rights law suit. Can you imagine? That's NY!

Steve:
It is my legal opinion that Dr. Cohen did not rule out absolutely the use of malathion --- careful to watch his words and subseq. bad reporting....... let us not be lulled....

Dear Joel,
I agree with you, if my alternatives are not effectively
and immediately followed - the city
will again spray dangerous pesticide POISONS, including malathion and/or worse.
It is now up to the environmental community to help see that all stagnant
water is either drained, emptied, removed or treated with diluted Kleen Away
enzyme cleaners, dish soap, lime or vegetable oil.
Minnows probably will not survive in sewage or waste treatment water -
but, diluted enzyme cleaners can and will safely and effectively do the job.
Will the environmental community rally to be for these safe and effective
alternatives, or will "they" continue to only be against pesticides?
The answer hopefully will be for the environmentalists to mount a
concerted effort to help safely control Culex pipens and help the city do the
"right thing".
If not, then Dr. Cohen will be forced by the
environmentalist's inactivity to once again spray his toxins.
Rachel Carson told us over 40 years ago that pesticide POISONS were not
"safe" - but, without Rachel giving us any viable alternatives, we now
use over 40 times the amount of POISON she was concerned with.
I have developed, field tested and/or researched over 1700 safe and
effective alternatives that I will gladly share with the world - who will
support these alternatives and help me safely solve the world's pest problems?
Steve
I agree with Joel and would not trust the fox to be guarding our hen house. I agree with Steve that this is a great opportunity to do something other than criticize. We need a plan. Steve you need to write down a two pager (more will not get done). Write down a step 1-10 plan to clean up and kill the mosquito, Joel and I shall do our best to get it used. How about the CO2 magnet? Is it any good. Bob Simon
