Dear Lyndon, I thought you might like to read an article from the Environment News service entitled: AD CALLS FOR BAN ON DURSBAN.

NEW YORK, New York, May 17, 2000 (ENS) - The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) ran a full page ad in the "New York Times" today highlighting the threat posed by Dursban, the nation’s most widely used pesticide. The group hopes to influence the EPA in its final decision on possible Dursban restrictions, expected to be announced in June. "Dursban, one of America’s most pervasive pesticides, is hazardous to our kids," the ad reads. Dursban, also known as chlorpyrifos, is related to nerve gases used in World War II.  It can cause symptoms ranging from headaches, nausea, dizziness, seizures, paralysis and even death, the NRDC says. Studies commissioned by the pesticide industry suggest that children may be more vulnerable to the chemical than adults.

In October 1999, the EPA announced that almost all current uses of  Dursban exceed government safety margins. Recent studies suggest that low level exposures to the pesticide may cause nervous system damage in children. A study in Minnesota found that 92 percent of schoolchildren have traces of Dursban in their urine. "That’s hardly surprising," says the NRDC ad. "Schools commonly use pesticides, and farmers widely spray Lorsban, the agricultural equivalent of Dursban, on fruits and vegetables." The group recommends a total ban on the chemical. "There are safer pest control methods, even safer pesticides that work just as well as Dursban," the ad reads. "We don’t need more study and delay. ... Only a total ban on this hazardous product will protect America’s children."

Well Lyndon, are you going help to ban DursBAN or will you continue to protect the "registered" POISON/PROFITS rather than the people?  This is just some more evidence that your "registered" POISONS are not adequately tested before they are "registered" and we must we needlessly suffer and die before "our government" begins to think about "protecting" us.  No wonder the organic farmer shot at the plane.

Respectfully,  Stephen L. Tvedten
