Lyndon, I thought you might like to read the attached article entitled: EPA PROPOSES NEW DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS ON RESIDENTIAL PESTICIDE  PRODUCT LABELS.

On June 14, 2000, EPA proposed new disposal instructions for the labels of pesticide products that are used in the home or garden.  The Agency is issuing a draft PR Notice to provide guidance to pesticide manufacturers on disposal instructions for residential or household product labels and to determine what is a residential/household product.  The proposed instructions would direct consumers to call their local solid waste agency or a toll-free phone number for instructions on the disposal of partially filled containers.  Since the early 1980s, EPA has directed registrants to label residential or household products with the following disposal instruction:  "Securely wrap original container in several layers of newspaper and discard in trash."  Some disinfectant products were allowed to instruct consumers to "pour down the drain with plenty of water." The Agency has discovered that the existing instructions may conflict with the laws, regulations, or practices, of some states and localities which instruct consumers to direct these materials away from landfills and give them to their local household, hazardous waste management facilities or programs.  The proposed changes address this conflict and help promote more careful disposal of  products that can be toxic when released in the environment.

Interested parties are invited to submit comments on this draft PR Notice, which is available on EPA's web site at  :- www.epa.gov/PR_Notices.  A Federal Register Notice announcing the availability of the PR Notice is available on EPA's web site at:- www.epa.gov/fedregstr.  The Agency is accepting comments on this draft PR Notice for 60-days after publication, and a final PR Notice will be issued by the end of 2000.  For additional information on this draft PR Notice, please contact Amy Breedlove in the Field and External Affairs Division at (703) 308-9069; breedlove.amy@epa.gov

Lyndon, I would like to note that your "registered"  products (POISONS)  can be and/or are toxic when released in the environment - via any means including labeled use.

Respectfully,  Stephen L. Tvedten.
