Endangered Turtles Succumbing To Pneumonia - Vets And Biologists Try To Save Turtles.

KEY LARGO, Fla., Updated 7:49 a.m. EST December 20, 2000 -- Pneumonia is threatening the already-endangered loggerhead turtle population in the Florida Keys.

Veterinarians and marine biologists are working around the clock to save the turtles.

In the last week, 45 of them have either died or become critically ill.

Vets aren't sure what's causing the pneumonia, but they say it could be a virus or toxins in the water, or even the recent cold spells.

[ProMED-mail would appreciate any additional information on this subject.  It is possible that the seagull die-off in Florida is related to the turtle die-off, considering that they share the same geographic location (South Florida), feed from the same sources and have similar environmental exposures. - Mod.PC]

Well Mr. Helliker, it has been said:  "You alone can do it, but you can't do it alone."  I know that is true - I am waiting for others to help me and/or to simply allow me to safely and far more effectively solve pest problems using only unregistered alternatives - I will continue, until we STOP POLLUTING OUR EARTH WITH YOUR "REGISTERED" POISONS!!

Respectfully,  Stephen L. Tvedten
