Lyndon, Did you know about the following study on some of the Male health effects caused by exposure to "registered" poisons? ------- Study Links Pesticide Exposure to Hormone Damage in Men.

Chicago, December 1998--Men exposed to pesticides on the job have altered sex hormone levels, possibly reflecting pesticide-induced damage to the testicles, according to a study in the December issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, official publication of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM).

Men working at a Chinese pesticide factory had significantly higher levels of certain female sex hormones than a comparable group of textile factory workers, report Dr. Chantana Padungtod of Harvard School of Public Health and colleagues. Furthermore, as the hormone levels increased, the men's sperm counts decreased.

Pesticide-exposed men also had reduced levels of the male hormone testosterone. Some of the hormonal changes were related specifically to pesticide exposure, after adjustment for other factors that could affect hormone levels, such as age, smoking, and alcohol consumption.

The hormonal changes observed were small but significant. The pattern of these changes strongly suggested damage to the testicles resulted from pesticide exposure.

The men were exposed to organophosphate pesticides, such as ethylparathion, which are widely used in agriculture, particularly in developing countries.

The new study is one of the first to provide detailed scientific information on pesticides' possible effects on reproductive health. The researchers call for broader studies to clarify these effects.  Such studies should address pesticide effects on both hormone levels and reproductive function in exposed workers.

ACOEM, an international society of 7,000 occupational physicians, provides leadership to promote optimal health and safety of workers, workplaces, and environments.  Padungton, Chantana, et al. <A Reproductive Hormone Profile among Pesticide Factory Workers</A> (December 1998, Volume 40, No. 12; pp 1038-1047)

Well Lyndon, when will it be "legal" (in your opinion) to use safe and far more effective alternatives to your "registered" poisons in California?

Respectfully,  Stephen L. Tvedten.

From Steve -  Quotes to Ponder:

"The first task is population control at home. How do we go about it? Many of my colleagues feel that some sort of compulsory birth regulation would be necessary to achieve such control. One plan often mentioned involves the addition of temporary sterilants to water supplies or staple food. Doses of the antidote would be carefully rationed by the government to produce the desired population size." — Paul Ehrlich, The Population Bomb, p.135

"A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal." — Ted Turner - CNN founder and UN supporter - quoted in The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor, June '96

"Childbearing [should be] a punishable crime against society, unless the parents hold a government license ... All potential parents [should be] required to use contraceptive chemicals, the government issuing antidotes to citizens chosen for childbearing." — David Brower - first Executive Director of the Sierra Club; founder of Friends of the Earth; and founder of the Earth Island Institute - quoted by Dixie Lee Ray, Trashing the Planet, p.166

"Truth is not what is; truth is what people perceive it to be." -- Adolf Hitler, Propaganda Maxim
