34 EXPOSED TO CHEMICAL

More than 30 people at a softball game for 14-15 year old girls were sickened Monday evening after inhaling a pesticide that was being sprayed to control mosquitos. The Saratoga County Sheriff's office identified the pesticide as FYFANON ULV, a brand name for malathion that was being sprayed beyond the outfield by a crew from Tree Care by Stan Hunt. Rescue squads from the area responded and took patients to Glens Falls Hospital. The incident is being investigated by the County Sheriff.

34 EXPOSED TO CHEMICAL By Michael Lamendola - Gazette Reporter

MOREAU - Approximately 34 children and adults who were accidentally exposed to an insecticide were treated and released at Glens Falls Hospital Monday night after experiencing respiratory problems.

Jayson White, the hospital's public relations manager, said patients began arriving at the hospital about 8 p.m. showing mild symptoms of shortness of breath. Doctors identified the agent of exposure as malathion, a product used to control mosquitoes. All the patients went through a decontamination shower, were checked for further symptoms and then released, White said. Several patients required oxygen. One adult, experiencing the most extreme symptoms, passed out, he said. The last patient was seen at 10:25 p.m. The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at 7:21 p.m. about the incident. Police said private contractors were dispensing a chemical mist from the back of a truck on the perimeter of the town park for the town of Moreau.

The adults and children were participating in a softball game at the park at the time.

Well Mr. Helliker, I love it when "they" say things like: "accidentally exposed to an insecticide and/or private contractors were dispensing a chemical mist from the back of a truck," it sounds a lot safer than: "POISON applicators (who obviously ignored the people) were misting dangerous 'registered' POISONS in such quantities and in such a haphazard way that the "registered" POISONS contaminated and POISONED at least 64 innocent and unprotected children and adults!"  Once again, this type of "application" proves there is no SAFE way to apply your "registered" POISONS!

Just one more "incident of innocent children being needlessly poisoned" but, when you begin to string all the "incidents" together, it clearly shows that there is no "safe" way to conduct mosquito spraying, using your "registered" POISONS - unless you evacuate all of the people, pets and wildlife first.  Bernard Baruch once noted: "Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton was the only one who asked why?"  Did you ever ask why the mosquitos are STILL here after ALL your "registered" POISONS have been used and misused for so many years?  Do you know why your "registered" POISONS sicken people?  Could the answer posssibly be that the first organophosphates were specifically designed to KILL/INJURE people and not insects?  Maybe "someone" should begin to ask "why" it is supposedly "illegal" to use safe and far more effective alternatives to actually control pest problems?

Respectfully,  Stephen L Tvedten
