EPA LABELS ORGANIC PYRETHRUM A CARCINOGEN
Response to Safe2Use:
Dennis Avery is a spokesman for the globalization that is being spearheaded by multinational corporations. He makes unsubstantiated statements in his rhetoric defending genetic engineering, praising food irradiation and calling attention to "deadly" organic foods. John Stossel made the same claims about organic foods in his infamous 20/20 broadcast which he was made to apologize for. He used misleading, false and non-existent test data to make his "e coli contamination of organics" claims. Avery appears to be of the same ilk as Stossel and I would not believe anything either one of them says. I would have to see independent tests done on pyrethrum before I would believe the carcinogenic claims. Unfortunately the EPA, USDA and the FDA cannot be trusted to do what is best for the American people and cannot be deemed to be independent due to intense corporate manipulation of the bureaucrats in charge of these American government institutions.
The USDA, FDA and EPA have all demonstrated that there is a clear and substantial bias in their operations favoring corporations who exchange jobs for favorable rulings and studies. This includes corporate efforts to have these organizations go after threats to their profits. For instance, the FDA's attempt to change the definition of "organic" to include genetic engineering, irradiated foods and food grown with municipal sludge. The law prohibiting labeling milk as free of rBGH. This is a Monsanto product that causes cows to unnaturally produce more milk, which contaminates the milk and beef from these cattle and, because it is a genetically engineered hormone, may also affect the growth and development of our children. The tendency for these regulatory agencies to allow industry to self regulate and self-test is the worst of the crimes our representatives have allowed the people in charge of the FDA, EPA and USDA to commit (Bio techs' genetic engineering and chemical production are two that immediately come to mind). There are wonderful dedicated people that work in these agencies, unfortunately they are the not the ones in charge and if they try to rock the boat they will be fired. The corporations have learned to manipulate the heads of these organizations and select underlings.
If the EPA actually did the study on pyrethrum it is further evidence of this insidious collaboration and use of these regulatory, in light of the recent elimination of funds to do a study on food irradiation.
Food irradiation kills bacteria and insects by destroying or damaging cells until the organism dies. Unfortunately most of the food that irradiation will be used on is still alive (bananas tomatoes and many other fruits and vegetables continue to ripen; potatoes grow eyes; onions grow shoots). These living fruits' and vegetables' cells are also damaged or killed by the irradiation. There is also evidence that vital nutrients are destroyed in the process, making these foods less nutritious. Further, radiolytic compounds are produced in foods hit with gamma radiation, substances we have never before eaten, and no studies have been done on their potential toxicity.
Yet, when funding was approved for the FDA to do a study on this "cold pasteurization" process a single congressman from California (Cunningham), was able to have the funding eliminated from the appropriations budget. This representative was the tool of Titan Corporation. Titan is the largest manufacturer of food irradiation facilities in the world and is based in Cunningham's congressional district. Titan claims irradiation is harmless to food, but had the congressman manipulate the removal of the funds to do a study to prove or disprove this alleged safety. We can only assume that Titan instructed Cunningham to get the funding removed because they know it is unsafe and unhealthy to use gamma radiation on food. Why else would Titan be concerned?
How in the world does food irradiation kill bacteria and insects and not damage fruit and vegetables? The answer? It DOES damage fruits and vegetables, and Titan and the FDA do not want us to know it.
Since Avery blindly supports food irradiation, genetic engineering and labeling organic food as deadly, I can only assume his claims about pyrethrum are also flawed and suspect.
I was hoping that "Safe2Use" was a source of fresh and unbiased reporting on the pesticide industry. But not reviewing who they are taking information from has damaged their credibility with me. I would like to see a response from them after they have taken the time to verify the information that I have submitted to them, and various news organizations' editorial departments, in this letter.
Sincerely,
Michael Polidori
