Dear Mr. Helliker, I thought you might like to read the following article:
NB Power compensates about 40 men
Fredericton, NB - NB Power is giving $1 million to a group of people who sprayed herbicides for the corporation in the 1950's and 60's. They say their health was ruined by exposure to the chemical that later became known as 'agent orange.'
After legal fees, the settlement will give about 40 men, or their immediate families, $20,000 each.
Robyn Gregory, a 66-year-old Fredericton man, says it's not enough to compensate for all his health problems. He describes the deal as 'an expensive apology.'
Gregory and dozens of other young men were hired to spray 'brush-kill' along the province's power lines. Years later, they suffered high rates of disease, including cancer.
Well Mr. Helliker, do you think $20,000 is fair compensation? Would you be happy with this "apology" if you had cancer?
Respectfully, Stephen L. Tvedten
