Dear Mr. Helliker, I thought you might like to read an article dated: Wed 15 May 2002, from The Scotsman entitled: Carcinogens Top The List Of Killers In Middle Age by: Kate Foster - kfoster@scotsman.com

CANCER-causing chemicals have overtaken heart disease as the No 1 killer of middle-aged Europeans, a leading scientist warned yesterday.

Dr Claude Reiss, of Doctors and Lawyers for Responsible Medicine, outlined his fears for the future of public health to MPs at a Commons meeting.

He said official statistics from the European Union revealed more than a million people aged 35-65 died prematurely every year as a result of carcinogens in pesticides, pollution, cigarette smoke and  food additives.

He added that experts agreed that 80-90 per cent of cancers - one million casualties per year in the EU - were attributable to cancer-causing chemicals present in the environment.

Dr Reiss said: "There are several kinds of chemicals that cause cancer that are found in pesticides, in food additives, or in pollution.

"Among the most dangerous chemical substances are the thousands of pesticide compounds in use in the EU which pose an especially serious threat to human health."

Dr Reiss also said that acute toxicity from prescription medicines or adverse drug reactions are now the fourth leading cause of death in the EU, claiming 120,000 lives each year.

The regulation of pesticides is carried out by Scottish ministers on the basis of advice from the UK Advisory Committee on Pesticides.

A Scottish Executive spokesman said: "We constantly seek to ensure that pesticides do not represent a serious threat to human health."

Well Mr. Helliker, apparently others are discovering that your "registered" POISONS are killing more than the "pests".  Hopefully more people will discover the safe and far more effective alternatives I give for free at http://www.thebestcontrol.com

Respectfully,  Stephen L. Tvedten
