Steve,

I appreciate the valuable information you are sending. You may be interested in the results of a study of a Maharishi Ayur-Vedic rejuvenation program which indicate substantial reductions in serum levels of persistent toxins following a five-day intervention.

Research Shows Treatment Greatly Reduces Toxins
BY BETTY SHEFFIELD

Two faculty researchers have found that environmental toxins are almost completely removed from the blood serum of those who undergo the Maharishi Rejuvenation program (panchakarma) and who also eat organic foods.

"The chemical toxins spread worldwide via air, water, and many foods, and accumulate with age," said researcher Robert Herron, a specialist in health policy in the Department of Management and Public Administration.

Two standardized detoxification procedures were conducted by Dr. Herron and John Fagan, professor of physiology and biochemistry. They discovered that a single five-day treatment reduced serum (blood) toxicants 50 percent. A twice-per-year treatment for five days, combined with an organic vegetarian diet, reduced certain toxin levels to zero.

The toxins they studied include PCBs, TNC, DDT, and HCH. "We live in a highly toxic world," Dr. Herron said. "Even people who are 'health nuts' can't avoid being bombarded with air, water, and food contaminants."

Individuals with high levels of these compounds in their system suffer from elevated incidence of many types of illness and mortality, Dr. Herron said. Adverse effects may include several forms of cancer, endocrine disruption, reproductive dysfunction, suppression of immune function, neurological problems, liver damage, and dermatological disorders.

The benefits observed through the application of this detoxification program include reductions in total cholesterol; improvements in mental and physical health, including physical well-being, energy, strength and appetite; reductions in lipid peroxide levels; reduced pulse and diastolic blood pressure; and reduced anxiety, a measure of chronic stress. Earlier studies indicated that this detoxification procedure enhances cognitive function; improves intelligence, memory, alertness, and psychomotor speed; and increases brain wave coherence.

Maharishi Rejuvenation programs
Published in Abstracts of the American Public Health Association 127 Annual Meeting and Exposition, 1999: In a longitudinal evaluation of participants of the detoxification procedure known as Maharishi Rejuvenation treatments, serum levels were measured before and after undergoing the treatments. After treatment, mean levels of PCB's (-46%) and b-HCH (-58%) changed significantly. THe results indicate that the Maharishi Rejuvenation treat-ments provide significant redution in levels of lipophilic toxicants. Lipophilic toxicants (including PCB, h-HCH, DDT and dioxins) have been associated with hormone disruption, immunosuppression, cancer, and other diseases.
