Dear Mr. Helliker, I thought you might like to read an article dated: Friday, July 26, 2002, from the Winnipeg Sun entitled: Charged for body blockade By CARY CASTAGNA, POLICE REPORTER.
A 22-year-old Wolseley woman was slapped with a $45 fine early yesterday morning after allegedly lying in front of a mosquito-fogging truck.
The resident was cited about 2:40 a.m. for obstructing a street under the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act, said Winnipeg police spokesman Const. Devon Clunis.
"She was just lying down in the roadway. She definitely was not sleeping," Clunis said with a laugh. "We're investigators, so I think we're able to come to that conclusion."
SLIPPED INTO NEIGHBOURHOOD
At the city's request, cops escorted the trucks about 2:30 a.m. as they slipped into the neighbourhood to complete residential fogging that had been delayed by numerous dissidents protesting the use of malathion.
Spraying was completed by about 3 a.m.
Yesterday's charge was the first and only laid by police during an ongoing standoff over the use of the neurotoxin.
Police would not release the woman's name yesterday because the charge is considered minor, Clunis said.
"The police have been fantastic, but it doesn't surprise me to hear that there was a charge," said 32-year-old Alloway Avenue resident Cheyenne Schroeder.
"Lots of people would've lied in front of a fogging truck. I personally would've lied in front of a fogging truck if there had been nine police cars right there," added 25-year-old Amy Pacholok.
"I was wheezing and coughing and almost fell down in front of a fogging truck."

Well Mr. Helliker, I had just sent the following out to a few friends; when I received this news story about a wonderful lady and her friends, I wonder if Josiah would be upset if I changed the men that he spoke of to women?
God, give us men! A time like this demands
Strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands;
Men whom the lust of office does not kill;
Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy;
Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor; men who will not lie;
Men who can stand before a demagogue and damn
His Treacherous flatteries without winking!
Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog
In public duty and in private thinking.
Josiah Gilbert HollandRespectfully, Stephen L. Tvedten
