New York State Pest Management Association Gains Amnesty In Ficam Registration Mix-Up

9/17/2002

FAIRPORT, N.Y. — In May, the New York State Pest Management Association (NYSPMA) became aware that the registrations on various Ficam products had lapsed and could no longer be used in New York. According to manufacturer Bayer ES, the registrations had expired because of reorganization within the company.

The expiration presented a potentially serious situation for pest management professionals and distributors in terms of record keeping and disposal of existing stock. While Residex Corporation sent out notices to its client base, many users were unaware of the situation. At this point NYSPMA President Gil Bloom contacted the Department of Environmental Conservation to resolve the issue.

The final outcome allowed for the timely removal of the materials from the state and pledged "enforcement discretion" for those who unwittingly used the material properly after the expiration date.

"It was a good example of regulators and responsible representation of the regulated community working together to resolve an issue in a timely manner," said Bloom.
