Dear Mr. Helliker,  I thought you might like to read an article entitled:  'Pesticides causing the most human ill health and environmental disturbance should be restricted'. http://www.thelancet.com/journal/vol360/iss9340/full/llan.360.9340.editoral_and_review.22697.1

In some parts of the developing world, pesticide poisoning causes more deaths than infectious diseases. Frequently, people using pesticides are unaware of the dangers, and even if they are aware, do not have the resources to protect themselves against the effects of these potentially deadly chemicals. In a Public health article, Michael Eddleston and colleagues discuss the model essential drugs list implemented by WHO, which has led to better supply and safer use of important drugs.

The authors call on WHO and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to develop a minimum pesticides list, which could be used in combination with methods to control use of pesticides to reduce the effect of pesticides on people and the environment.

Well Mr. Helliker, How on earth can you "justify" the statement that "in some parts of the developing world, ("registered") pesticide poisoning causes more deaths than infectious diseases?"  Especially when there are literally thousands of safe and far more effective and more economical unregistered alternatives?

Respectfully,  Stephen L. Tvedten
