EPA plans a broad crackdown on Internet pesticide sales to prevent unauthorized purchases and to keep such products from falling into terrorist hands.

An EPA official told ChemicalPolicyAlert that research shows such illegal sales are widespread and that many pesticide retailer Web sites fail to check or even ask for credentials of purchasers.

EPA promises to take action against such sites, the spokesperson said, as well as against those that sell products whose registrations have been canceled or otherwise unregistered.
