FROM JULY 20, 2002: Pesticides may be killing P.E.I. fish
Now that fear has been confirmed.
The department report indicates that pesticides were the most likely cause of death in seven of nine incidents, said Fisheries Minister Chester Gillan.
FROM JULY 25, 2002: P.E.I. limits pesticide use after more fish die
Heavy rainfalls washed the chemical from farm fields into the river, he said.
In two other fish kills, in the Tryon River and the east branch of the Westmoreland River, the evidence was inconclusive.
Environment Canada is considering charges in four incidents.
