Of the products available, they can be divided into chemical or non-chemical treatments. You must be very careful to follow the directions on chemical treatments as they have the possibility of exposure to toxic chemicals. There are a number of non-chemical treatments but we have had the most success with a product called "Lice R Gone".

I hope you never stop making LiceRGone.  We've been using LiceRGone for almost two years and I give a packet to parents when I send their kids home because of lice and they are back the next day lice and nit free.

I especially appreciate the fact that LiceRGone is nontoxic so I don't have to worry about any child being poisoned again.

LiceRGone is a wonderful product and I love it.

(Letter sent out by Teacher)  December, 2004

Dear Principal,

As a teacher in SCUSD, I am sending you this public service announcement about a highly effective but poorly advertised product that safely and easily gets rid of lice. (I have no financial relationship with the company; my interest is in protecting kids from toxic chemicals.)

Not only are most lice shampoos risky for overall health, but body fat levels of pesticides are higher in kids who have symptoms of ADD---these chemicals affect the central nervous system and make our job much harder. Absenteeism correlates with low achievement. Then too, no school can afford the lost ADA income.

Lice R Gone is sold by Safe 2 Use in Apple Valley. They offer a school discount: a case of 48 single-use packets costs $127.20. That is a bit pricey, nearly $3 per application, but I suspect PTAs would be thrilled to cut lice infestations (and re-infestations) to zero by subsidizing the cost for kids who are diagnosed carriers.

The attachment is a page of information on Lice R Gone that you can download and print out to share with teachers, the school nurse, and concerned parents. Basically, Lice R Gone is an enzyme that breaks down the exoskeleton of lice.

In a world full of sad news, Lice R Gone is a ray of sunshine!

I really appreciate the shampoo.  Our PTO fully endorses this product.  I am continually telling other schools about it.

To whom it may concern:

I work for Shasta Head Start, in Redding, California. I have full custody of my niece and nephew, my niece (who is 3) was sent home from her Head Start pre-school twice with head lice. The first time we used Nix-that didn't work. The second time, I was at my wits end and someone from work gave me a sample of your product. This person has since left my company, but the product worked so FANTASTICALLY well that I went on-line to see if I could find it in Redding. Can you tell me if at any time soon you will be carrying this product in Redding, California? Just in case she gets it again.

I also want to add that I have 2 grown girls of my own that ended up with it throughout the years and every time I treated them, when I pulled the live bugs out, they were still ALIVE. When I used your product, the first time, all the adult bugs, were DEAD, I couldn't believe it, this stuff is truly a blessing and time saver.

Thank You,

Patsy Bridges

My name is Teri Jordan, I am a registered school nurse for the Taft City School District. I am unable to attend the California State School Nurses conference this year in Sacramento, and I know you will attend with some samples of your product, could you please send me a sample for our school district? I was very impressed with your product last year and have recommended it to several moms, who have had good results.

My principal just received a sample that was sent to him after attending the Principal's conference in California. I have a little girl in 3rd grade who has battled lice for a good 2mos now and has just missed the last week of school because she would come in daily for the last week with live bugs and hundreds of nits and be sent home. I checked her this morning, live bugs again, tons of nits. Rec'd your product yesterday so I gave Mom the bottle to take home. It's 2:30pm...she returned and almost ALL nits are gone (maybe 10 that I saw) no live bugs!!! Mom said the nits and bugs "fell out of her hair". I have been a school nurse for 13 years and never have seen anything like this!!! The only time I see a good outcome after treatment is when the parents are absolutely compulsive about nit removal and obviously this Mom has not been. One question...does your product actually kill the live lice or just get them to fall out of hair...Safe for frequent use??? I plan to wait a week to see how she does and if this is a total cure I am going to let the other nurses in my district know as well as forward the info to our local pharmacy so that other parents can conveniently purchase your product.

Reply to Karen:
We are not allowed to use the word "kill". Only registered pesticide products may use that word.

It is safe enough to use daily and has been used safely on newborns, pregnant women and the chemically sensitive. We have found that school nurses are telling families to use it once a week for 3 weeks as that insures anything in the environment will be gone. Lice R Gone is safe and economical enough to do this.

We are very anxious to have this product shared with all parents to stop the needless poisoning of our children and the hardship and shame associated with this uncomplicated little bug.

Thank you for the wonderful letter.
