 USE

Domestic: Synergist. Synergists are chemical agents used to enhance the killing power of the active ingredients (FAIRS).

 Industrial:

 ACUTE TOXICITY
 Piperonyl Butoxide inhibits microsomal enzymes.
It is suspected of causing anorexia, carcinogenesis, coma, convulsions, dermal irritation, hepatic and renal damage, hyperexcitability, prenatal damage, prostration, tearing, unsteadiness, vomiting and weight loss (ENVCHEM).

 CHRONIC TOXICITY
 Changes in liver and kidney in test animals at high doses
 (ENVCHEM).

 Carcinogenic: Some data to support this (Sax & Lewis, 1989)
 Mutagenic: Some data to support this (Sax & Lewis, 1989)
 Teratogenic: Some data to support this (Sax & Lewis, 1989)
 Reproductive effects: Animal tests indicate adverse effects at very high doses (ENVCHEM).

 FATE IN THE ENVIRONMENT

 ACTION ON ANIMALS
 Acute oral LD 50: >7500mg/kg (rats)
 Acute dermal LD 50: 1880mg/kg (rabbits)
 Not toxic to fish or bees (ENVCHEM).
