Andrea, when you said that you noticed a bug bite while laying in bed, were the lights on or off? Did you notice the bite or notice the BITE's sting? It's very rare that bed bugs bite while you are awake. Also, how big are the bites? Bed bugs will feast until the're full, and the're about half the size of a dime when full. You'd probably see blood stains on your sheets if they are bed bugs (or their feces). My opinion is it's more likely to be bird mites than bed bugs. But, it also helps to tell us were you live - what state? Also, in your next post try to describe the bites; how big? puncture mark?, in a row? etc. It's hard to really get a good idea of what they are without this knowledge, and don't worry about the length of your posts. We're here to help so write away girl and don't throw out your mattress just yet. Wait until you know more $$ . In the meantime buy a zippered vinyl mattress cover. Post as soon as possible and give the info I asked. BTW, they also sell zippered vinyl pillow covers. Good choice. Go for it!
