COSHH Assessment Software Web App
Please read this before you attempt to use the tool
Step A, Get hole of the Data Sheet (MSDS) for the Chemical / Substance to be assessed. NB if you do not have this you can usually download from the manufacturers website or contact them direct.
Step B, Enter standard details (Hazard Reference Number, Task / Activity, Chemical / Substance and email for assessment to be sent to)
Step C, Information for Category can be determined and taken from the Data Sheet (MSDS) and simply filled in as required
Step D, Identify and fill in persons who may be at risk
Step E, Identify and fill in worst case effect
Step F, You must now give a description of the Risks associated with the Task / Activity, Chemical / Substance.
NB; this can vary due to many factors... Some examples may be such as spraying, pouring, mixing, confined spaces, contact with skin, inhalation, absorption, contact with eyes, fire precautions, contamination and more. You should be able to get a comprehensive list from the data sheet (MSDS), manufacturers, health and safety advisors plus more information is available on the HSE website.
Step G, Check if New / Expectant Mothers may be affected
Step H, Stat what control measures are required to be put in place before the Task / Activity, Chemical / Substance is to be started/used.
NB this can include such things as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements to be implemented, training, isolation, ventilation and so on all depending your particular situation
Step I, Any further requirements and control measures that may be implemented soon should be additional here
NB; this can include further control measures and if possible use of less harmful Chemical / Substance etc.
Step J , This section is accident and emergency procedures in case of contact with Skin, Eyes, Inhalation or Ingestion
NB; This information can usually be found on the data sheet (MSDS) or contact the manufacturer
Step K, Disposal information needs to be inserted here for the Chemical / Substance and any contaminated Clothing
NB; This information is available on the supplier's date sheet (MSDS)
Step K, you may now fill out the last required fields, set a date and person to review in the not to distant future and submit your form. You may also sign when printed out
If you find you have made any mistakes simply click the back button on your browser then edit the form and re-submit.
